Thorpe and Hands has over the years always been a small firm and prides itself on giving its clients personal service.
We are a close-knit team of 12 professional and support staff, including our three litigation specialist directors and an associate conveyancing specialist.
Richard obtained BA and LLB degrees between 1975 and 1979 respectively from the University of Natal, Durban. He then worked as a public prosecutor after serving in the military. He served his articles at Thorpe & Hands under Roy Phillips where he became a professional assistant and thereafter a director.
Richard is a well-known figure in the legal profession with over 30 years of experience in property and commercial litigation. He represents some of the largest corporate landlords in South Africa, including a number of listed companies.

Robin joined Thorpe & Hands in 2018 as an Associate, after having completed his articles and practising for two years at his previous firm. He attained his BA degree from the University of South Africa, whereafter he obtained his LLB at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2013.
Robin was appointed as a director at Thorpe & Hands in March 2021. He specialises in civil and commercial litigation as well as corporate advisory services. He also has a wide variety of expertise in general litigation, corporate law, property law, construction litigation and arbitration, sectional title management, labour law, franchise disputes and debt review and credit law.
Robin has a national client base that extends from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng and the Western Cape, and he serves as a director and legal advisor to several companies with a national footprint in the medical field.
He is an avid golfer and member of the Royal Durban Golf Club, as well as an accomplished musician and drummer.

Caitlin obtained her LLB (Hons) in 2020 from the University of the Free State, holding distinctions in many subjects. She is also a member of the Golden Key Honour Society. She served her articles at Thorpe and Hands Inc, under Robin Topping from 2021 to 2023. Caitlin has since been admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and is currently an Associate at Thorpe and Hands Inc.

Dynita Bianca Pillay joined Thorpe & Hands Inc. in 2023 as a Candidate Legal Practitioner after graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where she is currently pursuing a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Business Law. She is also a member of the Golden Key Honour Society.
Bianca is currently serving her Practical Vocational Training under our Director, Robin Topping.
Her areas of interest at the firm include Commercial Law, Property Law, General Litigation ,the Administration of Deceased Estates and Wills.
